How to get to the Mutianyu Great Wall from Beijing
Mutianyu is a restored Ming section of the Great Wall in Huairou, north-east of central Beijing. The easiest way there is one of the tourist buses that leave the city in the morning and bring you back in the afternoon. Plan on 3–4 hours at the Wall itself.
1. Buy tickets
- Entry ¥45; the shuttle bus from the visitor center up to the Wall ¥15; cable car ¥140 return or ¥100 one way. Children under 1.2 m enter free.
- Tickets are in your name and go on sale 15 days ahead on the official website; passports are accepted.

2. By tourist bus (easiest)
- The official tourist line leaves from Qianmen Transportation Hub (7:00–11:00), Dongzhimen metro station Exit H (9:10) and Shaoyaoju metro station Exit E (9:30). It costs ¥80 return; buy on the bus, from 30 minutes before departure. Hotline +86 10 8353 1111.
- Private tourist lines also run, for example Mu Bus from Dongzhimen metro station Exit B1 at 8:00 and 10:00, and Zan Bus from Wangfujing (The Regent Beijing car park) at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00. Book them on their own websites or on travel apps.
- Buses back to the city leave between 13:00 and 16:00 from car park P4 at the scenic area.

3. By public bus
- Take bus 916 from Dongzhimen to Huairou Beidajie.
- Change to bus H7, H23, H24, H35 or H36, all of which reach the scenic area.

4. By car or taxi
- Take the Jingcheng Expressway to Exit 13 (Beitai Road) and follow the signs.
- Parking is ¥20 per entry for a car.

5. At the Wall
- From the visitor center, take the shuttle bus up, then walk or ride the cable car to the Wall.
- Opening hours: Mar 16–Nov 15, 7:30–18:00 on weekdays and to 18:30 at weekends; Nov 16–Mar 15, 8:00–17:30. Hours run later in midsummer. Ticket sales stop an hour before closing.
- Arrive at opening time or after 15:30 to avoid the crowds.
- The visitor center lends wheelchairs and umbrellas for free and has free lockers.
